The out-of-home advertising market consists of advertisers spending on out-of-home media such as billboards, street furniture (for example bus shelters), transit displays (for example, bus sides, on-train print, taxi wraps), sports arena displays and captive ad networks (in venues such as elevators, bathrooms, etc.), as well as other formats.
Branded Media platforms connect audiences in clearly identifiable market segments, based on location, region, ethnicity and language. The content consumed by audiences is further aggregated into unique niche segments such as Business, Sport, Lifestyle and Entertainment. This is either online or in print.

Digital content from Independent Media brands and titles is showcased to South African and international audiences, via IOL. Effective Measure recorded IOL as the fourth largest site for news in South Africa in October 2017.
